Wilson Reading System: Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner

Available this fall! 1:1 Intensive Reading Intervention with WRS

Wilson Reading System: Intensive Intervention Tier 3

What is the Wilson Reading System?

Wilson Reading System (WRS) is a comprehensive literacy program. Lessons are highly structured and intended to be taught by a certified Wilson practitioner. The Tier 3 Structured Literacy Program is based on phonological-coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles. Adherence to the program is vital for best outcomes.

About Me

My name is Nicole Knight, and I am a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in Chapin, South Carolina. I am ASHA Certified and state licensed.  I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  I also completed a program in Applied Behavior Analysis at the Florida Institute of Technology. And now I am working towards certification as a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner. I expect to complete the program around the first week of August (2026). I have a passion for working with children and families and sharing in their success!

Services

Beginning this fall, I plan to provide online structured literacy intervention, using the WRS program, for students with Dyslexia and language-based reading disorders (for students in 2nd grade or higher that reside in South Carolina).

Online lessons are intensive and last one hour. The child will need access to a laptop, home computer, or iPad with internet access.

Cost is $120 per hour/session.

Frequency of 2 (or more) sessions per week is recommended. Greater frequency will lead to better/quicker outcomes.

The WADE (Wilson Assessment of Decoding and Encoding) is administered at the first session. Cost is $150 to administer, score, and report baseline data.

Payment will be required each week, via Venmo. I am happy to provide the family with a superbill. The family can submit the superbill to their Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or file claims with their private health insurance company. *Intervention is being provided by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, a medical provider.

Attendance rate of 80% or higher is required for your child to remain on my caseload. Regular attendance is crucial for student success. Also, I am holding that spot(s) for your child each week. I cannot bill for a session that didn’t happen. And certainly I understand cancellations for serious illness and vacation around the holidays. Please, please, try not to schedule regular doctor’s or dentist appointments during your child’s scheduled literacy intervention time. **If attendance drops or payment is not received weekly, I will send one reminder, before I offer the spot to another child.

**If you are interested in services for your child, please reach out to me as soon as possible. My caseload stays very full. I can let you know my availability and/or add your child to my waiting list.

More about the Wilson Reading System: Intensive Intervention Tier 3

Wilson Reading System (WRS) is a multi-sensory structured literacy program. The program is broken down into 6 Steps, and each step is broken down into substeps. New sounds, word structures, and syllable types are introduced at each step/substep. The child progresses from one substep to the next, when the child meets mastery criteria. An End-of-Step Assessment is administered at the end of each step, before proceeding to the next step. Therefore, the child moves through the curriculum at their own pace, as mastery criteria is met. A single, hour long, session consists of 8-10 parts. An individualized WRS lesson plan is written for each child for each lesson.  While the parts for each lesson remain the same, the specific targets chosen for decoding, encoding, and comprehension are based on the child’s weaknesses observed in previous sessions. Lesson plans are very diagnostic in nature and specific to the child’s needs.

Online vs. In Person

As a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, I have access to the WRS Digital Lesson Delivery Platform. The platform offers access to all of the traditional curriculum materials in digital format.  Same materials, just web-based! Working through the WRS program is a long term commitment. Driving to sessions week after week can get daunting and difficult, with busy schedules and illness. Attendance rates are higher with online service. Sessions are personal and rewarding and delivered via Zoom, with WRS integrity.

Our Therapy Services

Pediatric Speech Therapy

Chapin Speech Therapy provides pediatric speech and language services to children with various disabilities - including articulation and language delays, developmental delays, Autism, Down Syndrome, and other genetic syndromes and special needs. All children possess a unique ability to learn.  Chapin Speech Therapy will develop a program and goals specific to each child's communication needs.

Pediatric Speech and Language Evaluations

Pediatric speech and language evaluations will be administered as needed or upon request. Articulation and language evaluations are comprehensive and reveal a child's strengths and weaknesses as compared to their same age peers. This allows the SLP to develop individualized treatment programs and therapy activities to meet the needs of your child.
